Healthwise: Take control of your own thoughts and reactions

Abstract: As a culture, we tend to be negative. We assume the worst, we emphasize the bad parts of our days, and we even speak in the negative: focusing on what we don’t want, versus what we do want. By first being aware of and then actively changing our negative thoughts into positive thoughts, we can reprogram our minds to be positive.     

Our minds work perfectly following the directions we tell it to follow. If we want to change our reactions to situations and events in our lives, we must give our minds new directions to follow. Hypnosis is one way to identify what programming our minds are following and edit it accordingly.

However, we can also do this through repetition of positive affirmations. Have you ever heard the cliché, “If someone says something to you enough you’ll start to believe it’s true?” Usually this is thought of in regards to negative messages, but the same is true of positive messages. Give it a try and repeat positive affirmations to yourself daily that will become the new programming for your mind.

Another way to take back control of our minds is to find the positive intention in our body’s messages. Every feeling and emotion has a positive intention.  Our subconscious mind is the more primitive mind and therefore doesn’t have language. Instead it delivers messages through emotions, dreams, bodily sensations, and other things the subconscious controls. If you are continually getting a certain emotion or feeling, pinpoint the message your body is trying to give you.  Your body is sending you a message of something it needs, and it will keep sending that message until you meet that need. Identify that need, find a way to fulfil it, and the body will stop sending you that feeling or emotion.

If you feel a lack of control in your life, take control over the one thing in life you can control, your own mind. Start with reversing negative thoughts, then use positive affirmations to give your mind new programming to follow, and finally, interpret the messages your body is sending you. Your mind is your own, so own it and make the life you want the life you have.
